Life is never short of things to say about itself.

About the Author

Aravind Anand

I am a trained journalist, a contrarian by instinct, an independent thinker, and a family man who writes and sketches about impressions that everyday life leaves behind.

To observe, to question, to find the telling detail — was always there. I came back to it late.

What it needed was a reason: Noise — the hype and sensationalism that glosses over rather than pauses to ponder — became that reason.

The Illustrated Journal is where that gaze and study go into — commentary, essays, and pen-and-ink sketches that try to say in one image what a thousand words would dilute.

I write only when there’s something worth sharing. What you read and see is a consequence of watching and reflecting, and a deliberate decision to share an opinion about it.

I am less interested in outrage than in pattern. That discipline — of looking before concluding — shapes both the writing and the art.

Political commentary, geopolitics, and slower reflective essays — alongside the visual work that do what words sometimes cannot.

The Illustrated Journal is independent — no institutional affiliation, no advertiser, no editorial line other than my own.

I watch, I draw, I write — about moments that pause me, shape me, and stay with me.
